Famous Fashion Publicists and Beauty PR Trends For 2019

Trending articles are always published the last two months of the year and the first two months of a new year. Like clockwork, and based on your industry, one can expect an onslaught of “trend” articles and blog posts in November and December and then in January and February. Being in fashion and beauty public relations, I look forward to trend articles as this business has changed a lot in the past five years.

Famous Fashion Publicists in 2019

Back in the ‘90’s and early aughts, there was a coterie of famous fashion publicists. It used to be that you couldn’t launch a new fashion brand without the backing of a well-known publicist. Thankfully that has changed. We still need incredible publicists, however, not every new brand founder can afford their retainer fees.

Since the rise of social media and more behind the scenes boutique fashion public relations firms, big name publicists aren’t mentioned as often. Instagram, especially, opened the floodgate of brand self representation. Today, many up-and-coming designers and niche brands no longer retain the services of a PR firm. They present their designs to a worldwide audience via photos and updates. Some fashion brands even reach out to influencers without the aid of a publicist or PR firm.

New Beauty PR Trends

In 2019 we will still see the skincare industry continue to thrive. With new and niche beauty brands appealing to consumers, this upswing will continue for many months to come. Makeup brands will also remain a popular sell, but many beauty aficionados are turning to skincare. Makeup can only go so far if you don’t have nice skin.

Even though celebs such as Kardashian’s and Jenners plug their makeup lines with overly made up visages, many consumers are looking elsewhere for their beauty fix. Beauty public relations firms working with skincare brands are in the perfect storm so to speak. Editors, bloggers, and influencers are always searching for new beauty content to write and feature across various platforms. Clear skin is the ultimate new beauty currency. Contouring and thick makeup is out - clear skin is in.

Beauty PR trends in 2019 will continue to focus on skincare. Publicists and PR freelancers must continue to focus on press placement for their clients and also SEO efforts. In 2019, a public relations publicist, boutique agency, or large firm must have at least an elementary understanding of SEO. Today, SEO and PR go hand in hand. One of the best ways to rank a website is through back linking. Not every backlink carries the same rank.

Pitching a skincare client to editors at a beauty-Bible such as Allure.com, has the potential to score your clients powerful backlinks. Securing your clients backlinks from well ranking websites are a combination of public relations and SEO. SEO is not a trend, but it is a new trend as an addition to public relations. Beauty public relations is now more than simply pitching clients to editors and bloggers. Beauty public relations is much larger than even ten years ago. Today beauty PR is still traditional tactics, and then also digital; a basic understanding how websites are designed, a grasp of SEO, and also influencer outreach.
